An open-access journal publishing high-quality, editorially selected and peer-reviewed advances in all sustainability-related areas of science, including the natural and social sciences as well as engineering. Communications Sustainability is an open-access journal from Nature Portfolio that publishes high-quality research, reviews and commentary in all sustainability-related areas of science. The papers we publish represent significant advances that bring new insight to a specialized area of research. We also provide a community forum for issues of importance to scientists working on sustainability-related research, regardless of sub-discipline. Our scope covers all research that investigates sustainability, its policy dimensions and possible solutions, from a broad range of natural, social and engineering angles. Sustainability research aims at understanding how to ensure the well-being of current and future generations within the limits of the natural world. Primary research of interest to the journal includes important insights gained from fieldwork, novel analyses of existing data, numerical or analytical modelling or theoretical studies, and qualitative work. We encourage submissions that provide independent confirmation of particularly influential publications. The submission and review processes are managed by our in-house professional editors supported by our Editorial Board Members, who provide technical expertise across the breadth of sustainability research. We are committed to rapid dissemination of important research results. Articles are published on a continuous basis to ensure swift communication of findings. Criteria for publication To be published in Communications Sustainability a paper needs to meet several general criteria: The conclusions are novel (novelty is not compromised by either abstracts or internet preprints) The paper provides strong evidence for the main conclusions The underlying data are generated and processed at a state-of-the-art level, including tracking of uncertainties The manuscript is important to scientists in a specific sub-field of sustainability research In general, to be acceptable, a paper should meet these criteria and represent an advance in understanding that is expected to influence thinking in the field. .
