Lipids in Health and Disease is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles on all aspects of lipids, such as their interaction with proteins and their pharmacological, (bio)chemical, and molecular effects at the organismal level. We are also interested in molecular toxicological investigations related to lipids and natural products that can interact with various aspects of lipids in health and disease. The synthesis and actions of new lipid compounds and enzyme systems involved in lipid synthesis and metabolism are of interest. Lipids in Health and Disease invites submissions from all scientists, health care professionals, and physicians in all areas of lipids. Lipids are defined herein in their broadest sense and include: cholesterol triacylglycerols fatty acids phospholipids sphingolipids glycosphingolipids remnant cholesterol inositol lipids sterols and oxysterols second messenger lipids (such as diacylglycerol and ceramide) storage and bioactive lipid forms lipid mediators (e.g., eicosanoids, resolvins) lipid‒protein conjugates structural lipids relevant to membranes and signaling pathways The journal publishes research that investigates and defines the role of lipids in various physiological and pathological processes including, but not limited to: enzymes and synthetic machinery involved in the metabolism of lipids in cells and tissues lipid transport energy storage and metabolism structural components of cell membranes hormone synthesis cellular signaling brain and nervous system function nutrient absorption and transport thermoregulation and protection cardiovascular diseases obesity and metabolic syndrome diabetes mellitus neurodegenerative diseases inflammatory and autoimmune diseases cancer liver diseases infectious diseases kidney disease pulmonary diseases musculoskeletal disorders reproductive and endocrine disorders dermatological diseases eye diseases the gut‒brain axis and microbiota-linked disorders The journal particularly welcomes: Cutting-edge studies in emerging areas of lipid research, including lipidomics, spatial lipidomics, and the integration of lipid data with other omics technologies such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, to identify novel lipid biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Research exploring the roles of lipids in immunometabolism, all areas of immunity, and the resolution of inflammation is especially encouraged. Research on lipid-based nanocarriers, including lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), and other lipid-derived delivery systems used in gene therapy, mRNA vaccines, and advanced drug delivery applications. Studies investigating lipid dysregulation in aging, cellular senescence, and longevity Research employing computational modeling and artificial intelligence (AI) to predict lipid interactions, functions, and disease associations. Submissions addressing the influence of dietary lipids, food-derived bioactive lipids, nutraceuticals, and environmental exposures on lipid metabolism and related health outcomes are strongly supported. In particular, the journal seeks to bridge the gap between fundamental research and clinical application by highlighting studies that clarify the role of lipids in disease mechanisms, diagnostics, and therapeutic strategies.
