Neuroretina is an open access journal dedicated to cross-disciplinary neuro-ophthalmology translational research, that uses retinal imaging and other disease-specific biomarkers to detect and monitor neurological disorders through eye examinations. Neuroretina welcomes original research, perspectives, updates, and review articles, as well as reports on rapidly evolving AI applications and expert insights for healthcare professionals and researchers. Positioned at the intersection of neuro-ophthalmology and advanced retinal imaging, Neuroretina focuses on studies that employ retinal imaging techniques alongside molecular and genetic markers to improve the understanding, diagnosis, and management of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, NMOSD, MOGAD, glaucoma, and AMD. The journal features studies that use in vivo retinal analysis to uncover mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, offering insights into these complex processes. It also emphasizes research in oculomics, leveraging advanced imaging tools—such as OCT, OCTA, adaptive optics, hyperspectral imaging, and FLIO—to support earlier detection, real-time monitoring of disease progression, and the establishment of novel therapeutic endpoints. Neuroretina additionally explores the role of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning in retinal imaging for eye-brain disorders, with a particular interest in research that enhances clinical efficiency and accessibility for screening, diagnosing, and treating neurodegenerative conditions.
