The European Journal of Ageing: Social, Behavioural and Health Perspectives (EJA) is an interdisciplinary journal devoted to the understanding of ageing in European societies and globally. EJA publishes original articles on the social, behavioural and population health aspects of ageing and encourages an integrated approach between these areas. The journal emphasises empirical research (including meta-analyses), but also considers conceptual papers (e.g., narrative reviews) and methodological contributions. Empirical studies should be grounded in a solid theoretical framework, with a discussion that thoroughly evaluates the findings in relation to the stated theoretical underpinnings. Expert opinions on critical issues in ageing are welcomed By fostering communication between researchers and practitioners, EJA aims to contribute to the formulation of better policies and practices for serving older adults. To clarify further: the term 'social' refers to the full range of social science research on ageing, encompassing both micro-level and macro-level analyses. The term 'behavioural' encompasses the broad scope of psychological ageing research, including lifespan approaches that cover a range of age groups, from young to old. The term 'population health-related' refers to research within the fields of social epidemiology and public health, including studies on functional health broadly defined to include physical, mental and social well-being across the lifespan. Research that is purely clinical or biomedical is outside the scope of the journal. Additionally, given EJA’s international reach, studies focused on a single country must clearly demonstrate their relevance to a broader audience.
