It is a story of two young undergraduates, Ete Kamba and Nko, who confront the conflicting demands of tradition and modernity. Nko, as a woman, must overcome the resistance of those who feel that women need not be educated, and should instead lose their identity in traditional marriage. She must also contend with unscrupulous professors,who would wish to take advantage of her tenuous role as a woman in a maledominated environment.
