Book 4 in the Glencoe Essentials of Reading series is written for you. We hope you like the stories. These stories are about people and their lives. In some stories, you will meet families. You will hear about health and safety. You will read about places people work.
Would you like to learn about the Food Pyramid? You can in the part called A Closer Look at the Food Pyramid. You will find out how a picture tells a story in You Can Tell What's Happening. You will learn about leases in A Closer Look at a Lease. There is a story that tells about being an office worker and another about diabetes.
After each story, there is a part called Words, Words, Words. In this part, there is work for you to do with words. There is also a Word Story that tells about a new word. You will do two more pages about Understanding and Discussion. On these pages you will share your thoughts and ideas about the story.
At the end of this book, there are poems for you to read by Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, and Robert Frost.
