520 _aBMC Marine Science is an open access, peer-reviewed journal publishing interdisciplinary research in all areas of marine science, advancing the understanding, conservation and also sustainable use of marine environments. The journal welcomes submissions from a diverse range of topics, including marine ecology and environmental research, sustainability and conservation, aquatic biology, marine pollution and toxicology, impact of climate change on marine ecosystems, aquatic botany and plant management, estuarine and coastal research, diseases of aquatic organisms, molluscan and shellfish research, fish biology and biofouling. Aligned with the objectives of the United Nations sustainable Development goals, BMC Marine Science encourages submissions focused on life below water (SDG14). In particular, the journal aims to promote research into reducing marine pollution, protecting marine ecosystems and minimizing ocean acidification. Topics covered by the journal include, but are not limited to Marine ecology and biodiversity - research related to the diversity and interactions of marine organisms and their environments. Marine biology, health and disease – research related to the biology, health, and diseases of marine and aquatic organisms. Marine conservation and sustainable management – research focusing on conserving marine resources and promoting sustainable fishing practices. Marine pollution and environmental health – research focused on the sources, impacts, and mitigation of marine pollution. Physical and chemical oceanography - research covering all aspects of oceanography, including physical, chemical, biological, and geological studies. Climate change and ocean impacts - research related to how increasing temperatures, rising sea levels, and changing ocean currents affect marine health and biodiversity. Coastal and estuarine research - research on coastal and estuarine science, including ecosystem dynamics, human impacts on coastal environments, coastal erosion, and geomorphology. Fisheries and aquaculture - research on the management and sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture, including molluscan and shellfish studies. Marine microbiology and biochemistry - research on the microbiological and biochemical aspects of marine environments. Marine technology and innovation - research on technological advancements and innovative approaches in marine science. As a BMC Series journal, BMC Marine Science upholds the principle that editorial decisions are based on scientific validity rather than the perceived interest or impact of a study. Manuscripts must have a scientifically sound research question, employ suitable methods and analysis, and adhere to community-agreed standards within the research field. We encourage submissions from all researchers, recognising the importance of diverse perspectives and inclusive representation in the scientific community.
